Biography

200 words — lift as-is, no rewriting required

Liz Miele is a stand-up comedian and writer from Pennington, New Jersey. She first performed at sixteen at the Comedy Cellar in New York and moved to the city at eighteen. At fifteen she wrote to the comedians she admired for advice, and George Carlin called her back. Their friendship lasted until his death eight years later.

She has self-produced a run of hour-long specials for YouTube, including Self Help Me, The Ghost of Academic Future, Murder Sheets and Space Camp, and has released albums heard on SiriusXM. She has appeared on Comedy Central, FOX, AXS TV, Hulu and NPR’s Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me, and her book Why Cats Are A**holes was published in 2021.

She has toured London for about twelve years and performed in around 40 countries. Her material is personal, angry and story-led: therapy, her cats, CrossFit, heartbreak, and the gap between what she feels and what she is allowed to say.

The part other press kits leave out

What you should know before you book her

Liz Miele is a written, story-driven comic who has spent two decades learning to let a room see her temper.

She tells stories, not one-liners

Her average bit runs about four minutes, and she will not cut herself down to suit an algorithm. “I have long stories that go somewhere.”

She shows the anger now

Early on she described her anger instead of performing it. Now the audience sees it: “I’m okay with people seeing my flaws.”

She controls the joke

“I control how you see me and I decide if I look stupid, right?” For her it is the difference between being laughed at and laughed with.

She travels well

She has performed in around 40 countries and toured London for over a decade. “Anybody can relate to heartbreak and anger and betrayal.”

She builds her own audience

She self-produces her specials for YouTube and plays rooms of 100 to 300 people. “You have to start out with 100 fans to make millions of fans.”

She looks after other comics

Carlin’s advice shaped how she treats younger comedians, and she helped organise comics’ response to the SiriusXM Raw Dog changes.
