Six years of Russian stand-up without ever doing crowd work, because he never wanted to — until he worked out it was the only thing that pays. He is the quiet half of Almaty’s English comedy double act, and the one thinking two jokes ahead.

Biography
265 words — lift as-is, no rewriting required
Alisher is a stand-up comedian based in Almaty, Kazakhstan, performing in Russian and English. He came to comedy the long way round: KVN at his English-medium university in Almaty, one of twenty student clubs he joined in order to be an active guy on campus, alongside K-pop dance covers for rooms of 700 people. When the 2020 lockdown put the university online and left him with no job and nothing to do, he tried open mics, then paid gigs, mostly because he needed the money. Six years later he is still at it.
He is the craft half of the Good Night Comedy double act, and the quieter one on stage — by his own account his partner leads and carries the energy, which leaves him room to think. He avoided crowd work entirely for six years of Russian stand-up, then took it up when it became clear that views are what turn stand-up into a living, and that crowd work is the fastest way to get them. Having written jokes in one language first, he found the mechanics of setup and punchline carried over into English with the wording rebuilt around them.
He studies comedians the way an engineer studies a machine. His example is Louis CK’s rehearsed gestures and timed sips of water — evidence, to him, that the apparently natural is intentional, and that intention is really about control. His standard for whether a point is worth making at all comes from a university professor: shout it out of a window, and if nobody stops, do not say it on stage either.
The part other press kits leave out
What you should know before you book him
Alisher is the analytical one in the room: he can tell you why a joke works, where the tension in it sits and why he chose to build it that way. He also performs in two languages and has been doing it for six years.
The window test
His measure of material, learned from a university professor: shout your point out of a window, and if nobody stops to argue, it is not worth saying. Making an audience uncomfortable counts as stopping.
Intention is control
He rejects the idea of natural talent. His case study is Louis CK, who rehearses the same gestures into the same joke and times when he sips the water; the aim is to make the deliberate look accidental.
Crowd work as a business decision
Six years of Russian stand-up with no crowd work at all, then a deliberate switch when he realised views pay and crowd work is the quickest route to them. He has been building it since early 2026.
Simple is the hard version
His definition of a master is someone who can make something complex simple — delivery that feels effortless over jokes that were anything but.
Two languages, one set of mechanics
He wrote in Russian first and moved the structure into English, changing the wording and the puns but not the engineering underneath. He was educated in English and studied in London.
He is the counterweight
On a double bill he is content to let his partner drive the room while he sets up the returns. Useful to know if you are programming the two of them together.

Quotable
01
“I was doing Russian stand-up comedy for six years, and I never did crowd work. I never wanted to do it.”02
“Then I realised that if you want to make money from stand-up you have to get views, and the easiest way to get views now is to do crowd work.”03
“I just wanted to be an active guy in the university. I participated in like 20 social clubs.”04
“We used to do K-pop dance covers at the university. We had shows for 700 people.”05
“I was doing stand-up just because I needed money. So then six years passed and I’m here.”06
“I don’t have any tips for quick jokes. It just comes with practice.”07
“He has more energy than me. He’s the lead one, so I’m usually in the background — I have time to think about jokes.”08
“I don’t think there’s an innate, natural talent of just being funny without doing anything.”09
“If you look at great comedians like Louis CK, he does the same gestures in the same joke at the same time. He does this rehearsal.”10
“He even timed the jokes in which he’ll sip the water.”11
“Intention is more about control.”12
“If you’re a master of comedy, you can make something complex simple.”13
“Even the wording, the whole delivery, it feels so simple. But then if you think about the jokes, it’s not that easy to come up with that one.”14
“If you scream your point out of a window and nobody will stop and pay attention, don’t use that.”15
“Making them uncomfortable is also an emotion. It’s a good emotion.”16
“You have to make them feel something, not necessarily good, and then you just need to release the tension.”17
“I did stand-up before in Russian, so I have the skills of writing jokes, and the sense of how a setup and a punchline works in another language too.”18
“The depth comes more in material, when you prepare the material. That’s when you get deeper and you try to dig your emotions.”
