Biography

234 words — lift as-is, no rewriting required

Meg Millane is a stand-up and solo performer who spent most of her life as a dancer before she spent any of it as a comic. She was on stage at eight, playing a troll, and remembers the bow rather than the performance — the moment she decided the energy of live performance was what she was supposed to be doing. Dance and musical theatre followed, through to a degree.

She came to comedy about five years ago, dabbling during the pandemic through online courses and online shows she describes flatly as horrible, because she could not dance and needed a creative outlet. Her first solo show, How to Give Up on Your Dreams, was about exactly that switch: changing paths and changing careers. She took it to the Edinburgh Fringe in 2024.

She returned in 2026 with Bride To Be, a show about the less advertised side of being a bride, built on the idea that things can be awful and you are still in charge of how you process them. The dance degree is fully deployed — there is physical comedy throughout and probably a dance break or two — and she is candid that a bubbly, high-energy woman is not what most comedy clubs are calibrated for, which made getting started harder than it needed to be.

The part other press kits leave out

What you should know before you book her

Meg Millane brings a performer’s training to a form that mostly does not have one, and she is thoughtful about both what that gives her and what it cost her early on.

The body is part of the act

Physical comedy throughout, and likely a dance break. She does not stand still, and says so — worth knowing when you are speccing a stage and a light.

Her energy is deliberately not club-standard

“It’s hard being a bubbly girl.” She felt out of place in rooms tuned to a different register, and has stopped treating that as a fault to correct.

Bombing gracefully is a skill

Her distinction: not being the room’s vibe is survivable, and truly bombing is what happens when you abandon your own confidence and black out through it.

The theatre training cut both ways

She was so comfortable on stage that early on she plowed through silence like a monologue — it took her a while to register that the audience was supposed to be laughing.

Two solo shows, one throughline

How to Give Up on Your Dreams was about changing careers; Bride To Be is about staying in charge of your own feelings when things go wrong. Autobiographical, not confessional.

Second Fringe, better prepared

She did 2024 in a tiny venue, by her own account like a chicken with its head cut off. She returned in 2026 with a team around her.

Quotable

  • 01

“I remember taking a bow and just feeling like: oh, this is what I’m supposed to do.”
  • 02

“Being a comedian, in a way I love it more — getting the laughter. There’s a sense of people really getting to know me and my point of view.”
  • 03

“Being able to see their faces react to what you’re saying is such an intimate experience. It really is about the relationship between yourself and the audience.”
  • 04

“I’m making that dance degree work, okay?”
  • 05

“I can’t not dance, actually. The biggest note I always get from directors is: can you just stand still? And I’m like — I’ll try it.”
  • 06

“Dance is so structured and it’s very polished. They’re such different worlds.”
  • 07

“I came from such a theatre background that when I started stand-up, I felt fine bombing in a way that wasn’t helpful.”
  • 08

“I was like: oh, I’m just doing a monologue. It took me a while to realise they’re supposed to laugh.”
  • 09

“There are ways to bomb gracefully. Sometimes they’re just not the audience for you, and that’s fine. I understand I am not for everyone.”
  • 10

“There’s a way to still be truthful to yourself and be confident in what you’re presenting, even if they’re not picking up on it.”
  • 11

“When you truly bomb, it’s because you give up on yourself.”
  • 12

“Having awareness, even if it’s not going well, is such a strength.”
  • 13

“It’s hard being a bubbly girl. It’s a different vibe than a lot of comedy clubs are used to.”
  • 14

“We can’t all be the same — if we’re all the same, who’s going to stand out?”
  • 15

“Things can suck, but we’re still very much in charge of our own feelings and how we process them.”
  • 16

“Edinburgh is haunted in the most beautiful way.”
