Rory Scovel is about to do something most comedians would never attempt on camera. On Sunday, 15 November 2026, he will release a fully improvised, hour-long stand-up set on his YouTube channel. No written act, no polished bits. Every word of it will have been made up on the spot.
He first teased it on Instagram on 16 October, then confirmed the date and the platform on 6 November.
I will be releasing a fully improvised, hour long standup set on my YT channel on Sunday, November 15.

It lands just three months after his Netflix special Show Must Go On, which makes it a strange and brave follow-up. Most comics spend years building an hour. Scovel is going to build one in real time and put it straight out on YouTube.
He has done this before
Improvising a whole set is not a new trick for him. In 2021 he released Live Without Fear, a documentary and stand-up hybrid directed by Scott Moran, in which he set out to perform fully improvised sets over six consecutive nights at the Relapse Theatre in Atlanta. The film follows the highs and lows of getting on stage with nothing prepared, and it premiered on his YouTube channel on 24 June 2021. It is still there to watch in full.
Scovel has a habit of turning up in unexpected places. He once dropped in on a comedy show that ran for 184 hours straight. Read Comedy World Records You Didn’t Know Existed.
The Rory Scovel specials to watch before 15 November
If you only know him from one hour, or have only seen him as an actor, these are the specials to catch up on first.
1. The Charleston Special (2015, Seeso)
His first hour-long special, taped at the Woolfe Street Playhouse in Charleston, South Carolina, and released on Seeso, NBC’s comedy streaming service. It is the best place to see where the loose, playful style he is known for began.
2. Rory Scovel Tries Stand-Up for the First Time (2017, Netflix)
The title is the joke. By 2017 Scovel was already a seasoned comic, but his first Netflix special is sold as a rookie’s debut, and he commits to the gag in a taped sketch with Jack White. It was filmed in Atlanta and premiered on Netflix on 20 June 2017.
3. Live Without Fear (2021, YouTube)
Six nights, no material, one theatre in Atlanta. If you want to know what 15 November might feel like, this is the closest thing to it, and you can watch the whole film above.
4. Religion, Sex and a Few Things in Between (2024, Max)
Executive produced by Conan O’Brien through his company Conaco and directed by Jeff Tomsic, this one premiered on Max on 22 February 2024. Paste called it an early contender for the best comedy special of the year and his best-structured work to date.
It is official, brand new improvised project coming 11/15…

5. Show Must Go On (2026, Netflix)
His most personal hour, and his first Netflix special since 2017. Filmed at The Neptune in Seattle and released on 11 August 2026, it was shaped by the death of his father, and ranges from a hypothetical home invasion to a biblical reenactment to his late dad’s final wish.
Think you know your specials? Rory Scovel even makes an appearance in The Ultimate Comedy Quiz: Only True Stand-Up Fans Can Score 10/10.
Why it matters
Comedians talk about him with real respect. Our guest Michael Morgan named him among the stand-ups he loves most, and Scovel directed Simon King’s special As Good As Or Better Than. An improvised hour is the kind of risk that only works for someone who is genuinely comfortable on stage.
