Seann Walsh is a British stand-up comedian and actor, born in Camden and raised in Brighton. He started stand-up in his early twenties as, in his words, a very hyper young man, and the physical, all-over-the-stage style that came out of that was never a decision. His idols were Lee Evans and Jim Carrey, whom he describes as real-life cartoons; the thing he tries to stay conscious of is keeping the silly in it. The Guardian called him the best observational comedian of his generation when he was 28, a line he appreciated and did not take seriously.
He has appeared on Live at the Apollo three times, Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, 8 Out of 10 Cats, The Last Leg and Conan. His self-produced YouTube specials, Back From The Bed, Kiss and Seann Walsh is Dead, Happy Now?, have together passed a million views. He sees the last two as chapters of an autobiography told through stand-up, full of pain once the laughs are taken out, and says he hopes never to make anything like them again. His 2022 tour, After This One, I’m Going Home, won the Chortle Award for Best Show.
As an actor he starred in Jack Dee’s ITV sitcom Bad Move, co-hosted Netflix’s Flinch, played Malvolio in Twelfth Night, earned five-star reviews on the UK tour of ART, and won Best Actor at the 2023 Sydney Science Fiction Film Festival for The Bystanders. His current tour, This Is Torture, written at 40 and as a parent, is about what his shows are always about: how unbearably annoying it is being alive today.
