After nine straight weeks of failing at clown school, he tried to impress everyone with a Chekhov scene he could not possibly memorise. He failed spectacularly, and the room fell apart laughing. The teacher said the clown module started next week.

Biography
238 words — lift as-is, no rewriting required
Sevrin Willinder is a clown and physical comedian who started out doing SpongeBob impressions with his dad, who encouraged him into school plays. He did theatre in college, moved to New York after graduating, and found himself drifting further toward physical comedy because it simply brought him the most joy. A mentor was the first person ever to call him a clown — after directing him, in a dramatic scene, to play a piano well and then act as if it sounded terrible.
Travelling in Australia for a couple of years, he took a mask-making workshop, went to see a fellow participant’s show, and thought it was the silliest, stupidest thing he had ever seen, and exactly what he wanted to do. That led him to the clown school of Philippe Gaulier. His second term there was a long struggle — nine or ten weeks of going on stage and failing, until he felt increasingly invisible — which ended with a Chekhov scene he committed to so completely that it turned into the clown work he had been missing.
He was at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2026 with two shows. Time Travel Postman, which he has worked on for a year and a half, follows a well-meaning postman who is not very good at his job, delivering mail across history — including the flag for the moon landing — with the audience’s help. The Kobold Show is an ensemble piece performed entirely in gibberish.
The part other press kits leave out
What you should know before you book him
Sevrin Willinder is a Gaulier-trained clown, which means his whole method is built around two ideas that sound backwards and turn out to be right.
Don’t try to be funny
The Gaulier lesson he quotes most. Genuine vulnerability inside a ridiculous circumstance beats any joke you are trying to land. He disliked it at first and now lives by it.
Have fun, because that you can change
In the moment on stage you cannot become a better actor, but you can decide to enjoy it. He treats that as the only lever actually available.
Audience-assisted
In Time Travel Postman the postman needs the room’s help to do his deliveries. His own pitch for it: it will be really dumb, and you might leave with a best friend.
Wordless when needed
The Kobold Show is performed entirely in an invented language, which forces the cast to be simple, clear and expressive. It plays for any audience, in any language.
He knows what failure is for
Nine weeks invisible at clown school and a silent performance for a juvenile detention centre, and he is candid that the breakthroughs came out of exactly that.
It is about friendship
The postman is not really a show about time travel or letters. It is about someone who loves his job and loves making friends.
