Biography
245 words — lift as-is, no rewriting required
Stacie Burrows has been on stage about as long as she has been alive — her debut was as the black sheep in a preschool Old MacDonald Had a Farm, which she considers telling. Since then she has done theatre, improv, sketch, stand-up, musical comedy, serious music, storytelling and solo theatre: if there is a stage involved, she has worked on it. Her roots are in stand-up, which she credits with teaching her to handle any room.
For about ten years she toured the United States in a musical comedy duo with a fellow Southerner: two women singing in a sweet Southern harmony, with lyrics that were filthy, and material about motherhood at a time — seventeen years ago — when no female comic wanted to be labelled a mom comic. At the Comedy Store’s Main Room on Sunset Boulevard, they got a standing ovation in the middle of their set.
During COVID, with her children growing up, she pivoted to solo theatre. Her first Fringe show, Bulletproof Unicorn in 2022, took five years to make and had her consoling grown men in tears after every performance. Fool’s Gold Mind is about financial recklessness and American debt, told through her father — a Houston salesman who kept living like a wealthy man after the oil bust took his wealthy clients’ money and his with it. The stories are funny. The songs, deliberately, are not.
The part other press kits leave out
What you should know before you book her
Stacie Burrows has done nearly every stage form going and has settled on one that uses all of them: true stories, original songs and archival images, cued precisely to her own words.
Funny stories, serious songs
A deliberate split. The storytelling carries the comedy; the songs carry how she actually felt. It is what gives the show its emotional weight.
A technically exact show
123 projection cues of her real life — photos and archival footage — built on the words she says. She has to stay precisely on script so the images land.
Stand-up underneath it all
Years of stand-up and a decade touring a comedy band taught her to pivot in any room. The solo work is structured, but she is not thrown by a live audience.
She goes where people will not
Debt and money are subjects Americans find embarrassing to discuss. That is exactly why she chose it — and why audiences recognise themselves in it.
It moves people
Her last show left grown men in tears afterwards. This is theatre with humour in it, not a comedy set with a sad bit at the end.
Ridiculously optimistic
Her own phrase. Comedy has been her coping mechanism since birth, and her work reliably finds the absurdity inside the damage.

Quotable
01
“A lot of people know me from my first work, which was Old MacDonald Had a Farm at preschool. I was the black sheep. That was kind of telling.”02
“I liked the feeling of offering something to a group of strangers and having them receive it and be delighted.”03
“I’ve done theatre, improv, sketch, stand-up, musical comedy, serious music, solo theatre, storytelling. If there’s a stage involved, I’ve done it all.”04
“Stand-up trained me to handle any situation, in any room, with any audience.”05
“We got a standing ovation in the middle of the set. We’d never seen anyone in a comedy club give you a standing ovation in the middle of your set.”06
“Back then no one wanted to be identified as a mom comic.”07
“Our lyrics were filthy. But we were doing it in sweet harmony.”08
“Every time we landed the punchline, people were like: oh my God, it sounds beautiful. And it’s hilarious, because it’s kind of dirty.”09
“I’m ridiculously optimistic. I might be the dumbest person on earth, but I really believe everything’s going to be okay.”10
“Holding down 26 pages of a monologue, sticking to the script because the cues were all built on the words I was saying — that was really tough.”11
“I had to console grown men after every performance.”12
“Comedy has been my coping mechanism since the day I was born.”13
“I didn’t realise how my funny bone would be the thing that carried me through so much drama, trauma, stress, chaos and dysfunction.”14
“I talk about uncomfortable s*** and sing pretty songs about it.”15
“I don’t know any other country that would allow you to go into the kind of debt that Americans have. And no one talks about it, because it’s embarrassing.”16
“He raised us as rich kids, even though we were not rich at all. I didn’t know until I was a teenager.”
