Jack Grady is a comedy magician from Cleveland, Ohio. Born in 1999, he did his first show at eight years old for the Ronald McDonald House, and learned the craft off books and VHS tapes because the local magic shops were already closing down. He set out to be a serious card manipulator, spent years on the technical sleight of hand, and then at 14 joined an improv troupe and fell in love with comedy. What came out of that combination is the act he has now: fast, grotesque, aggressive, avant-garde, and built on real magic underneath.
His stand-up show runs 55 minutes on the dot and took three years to build, entirely on stage. He does not write on a computer. He takes a trick out, performs it, records the audio, listens back, and ad-libs until the lines stay; more than a hundred jokes in the show were found that way rather than in a writers’ room. He describes the structure as a pyramid: the magic is the base, the story of the routine is the second level, and the jokes sit on top. In September 2026 he filmed that hour in Los Angeles as his first comedy special, which means retiring bits he had been working on for over a decade.
Away from the clubs he is best known for two stunts he entered with his eyes open. His America’s Got Talent audition — the shortest on record — was planned as a meme rather than a win, and he is billed as the first magician to compete in a professional boxing match, against the juggler Wade Stokan. A documentary following his life as a working magician premiered at the 2026 New York Film Festival. He tours Canada through October 2026 and plays the Comedy Store in Sydney in December.

What you should know before you book him
Jack Grady is a comedy magician who insists on the term, and who can explain exactly how the act is put together. He is also, off stage, nothing like the person on it.
The magic is load-bearing
He builds a routine as a pyramid: the trick is the base, the story is the second level, the jokes are on top. Take the magic out and, by his own account, the whole thing falls apart.
The show was written on stage
Nothing is drafted on a page. He performs a trick, records the audio, listens back and ad-libs until the lines survive. The hour is improvised, but over years rather than in one night, so it is thoroughly road-tested.
Two gears — and a name for the second
On stage he flips into a high-speed, in-your-face persona his manager christened Assdini. Off stage he is calm and conversational, which has surprised people who only knew the videos.

Clean of the third rails
He does not touch race, politics or religion in the show. It is rude, grotesque and occasionally aggressive with an audience member, but it is not a political hour.

It is a prop act, and he is direct about the label: he is a comedy magician, not a prop comic, and he corrects bookers who reach for the second term.
