Rebecca Wolf is a New York solo performer, clown and comedian, and the creator of The Pigs Next Door. She auditioned for her first school play, was too shy to get a part, watched the show from the audience and decided that was exactly what she wanted to do. The next year she landed the role of Glenn the Gull. As she puts it now, she has gone from bird to pig and intends to work through the whole animal kingdom eventually.
The pig is Peg, and she was born from a thirty-second improvised audition prompt: you have just received a call from the IRS. Wolf decided the person taking that call was the third little pig — because the eldest brother had hired the big bad wolf to destroy his siblings’ houses for the insurance money. She already owned a pig costume. The character stuck, and what grew around it is an immersive, improvised sitcom in which the audience are cast as the neighbours: a pink telephone is thrown into the crowd and whoever catches it becomes a character they have just heard described.
Underneath the pig ears is a Boston Conservatory training in devised theatre, and a period at Clown Gym in New York which she says broke her wide open. The show has a stuffed-animal husband called Joel, an original song and a deliberately terrible burlesque number. In her own words, it is not deep. It is meant to be fun.

What you should know before you book her
Rebecca Wolf builds shows that need an audience to exist — not as spectators but as cast. That is the whole proposition, and it comes out of clown training rather than stand-up.
The audience are in the show
Not audience participation as a gag. They are cast as the neighbours, handed a telephone, and given characters they have just heard described. A solo show that is rarely just her.
There is no fourth wall in clown
Her training makes her think constantly about what the room is feeling. Every structural decision in the show came from asking why it would be interesting for them.
She works from what she already has
The pig exists because she owned a pig costume. Joel exists because she has had the stuffed animal since childhood. Resourcefulness is the method, not a constraint.
Character is freedom, self is harder
Playing other people, she says, is a privilege — you put your own life down and pick up someone else’s. Useful to know when casting her as herself.
She was sued at sixteen for a comedy set
Her high-school senior project was 45 minutes of stand-up about her restaurant boss, posted to YouTube. The legal threat kept her off stand-up stages for years.
Not deep, on purpose
She is explicit that the show is built for fun rather than profundity. Book it as an entertainment, not an issues piece.
