She wrote and performed a one-woman show at 24, before she had even started stand-up — not because she was fearless, but because she did not yet know enough to be scared. She has been doing the hard thing first ever since.

Biography
245 words — lift as-is, no rewriting required
Corinne Fisher is a New York stand-up and, with Krystyna Hutchinson, co-host of Guys We F****d — twelve years of a show the two of them raised together, inside a creative partnership now fifteen years old. She is emphatic about one distinction: the podcast is their baby, but her stand-up is hers alone.
At 24 she wrote and performed I Stalk You: A One Woman Show, an hour of storytelling directed by David Crabb, a year before she ever tried stand-up. Her explanation is that the best time to take on something difficult is before you know how difficult it will be. Stand-up clicked the moment she started, in a way every other kind of performance had not, and she devoted herself to it. She has since worked New York Comedy Club — where she has done the most reps — The Stand, Carolines, UCB, Gotham and The Stress Factory, and sold out the Main Room at The Comedy Store.
Now 40, she has largely moved on from dating material, and has experienced a lot of death in the last decade. She says she prefers talking about death on stage to talking about breakups, because the stakes are so much higher. When a man she had just started seeing died suddenly while she was at Just for Laughs in Toronto, she processed it on stage that same night.
The part other press kits leave out
What you should know before you book her
Corinne Fisher trusts her own material over the room’s preferences, and has fifteen years of stage time to back that up. She is also unusually clear about the difference between being humbled and getting better.
She does not pander
She picks jokes that suit the crowd, but she does not rewrite herself to please one. Altering your set too much for a room is, in her view, a rookie move.
Death over dating
Her current material goes toward grief rather than romance. Higher stakes, harder to navigate — and she finds it far more interesting than breakups ever were.
Not interested in being humbled
She rejects the word. The world is always trying to humble women; what she will say is that she has improved through success and failure in every room she has played.
Bombing means move on
A run of bad sets tells her she has graduated from the material. The response is simple: write new material.
A careful joke doctor
For a joke she believes in, she tests it across neighbourhoods and cities, rewrites, runs it past other comics — and if it still hits a wall, shelves it for a few months.
The business half of a partnership
Krystyna brings the childlike wonder; Corinne works out how that vision survives in a brutal industry. In her words, she brings the New Jersey.
